Receipt Wallet

Photograph a receipt and it pulls out the date, the shop and the amount and stacks them in a table. It totals each month for you. For Android phones.

The photo never leaves the phone

Getting ready…

Open this page on the phone and press the button. If you download it on a computer you will have to move the file across.

Said plainly first — this is the first build

It passes all 60 of our own checks, but it has not yet been tried widely on real paper receipts. Every shop prints a different shape, so there will be receipts it reads badly.

What it will not do is invent a number. If a photo is too blurred to read, it writes “missing” rather than 0, and marks the row orange with “please check”. The total adds up only what it actually read, and says underneath how many receipts it left out.

If you find a receipt it reads badly, send us the photo and we will add a rule for that shape.

One thing to say in advance

When you install it, the permission list Android shows you includes “internet”. That is put there by default by the toolkit the app is built with, and we do not use it — no photo and no text is sent anywhere. In case that does not sit well with you, the next build will have that permission removed altogether.

Once you have it

  1. Tap the downloaded file (Valuestools Receipt Wallet.apk).
  2. If it asks about "apps from unknown sources", choose allow. — that is because it is not on the Play Store yet.
  3. Press Photograph a receipt. You can also pick several at once from the gallery.
  4. A row appears in the table. Anything it could not read is orange — tap that row and type it in. The total updates the moment you do.
  5. The table button at the top right gives you the spreadsheet to export.

Anything it reads badly, you can correct by hand on the row itself — and if you send us the photo we will add a rule for that shape.
